Network - IR (Internet Registry)

A central database that contains the network addresses of machines and ID numbers of autonomous systems (domains) on the Internet. The task of maintaining the IR is delegated by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and is being carried out by the Defense Data Network Network Information Center (DDN NIC). This process has become considerably more difficult as the corporate world joins the Internet, wanting to use its trademarked names, and willing to put its lawyers to work to get its way.
