Network - CHRP (Common Hardware Reference

Platform) A set of specifications for PowerPC systems. CHRP is being developed by Apple, IBM, and Motorola, and is designed to enable such a machine to run multiple operating systems and cross-platform applications. While specifications have not been finalized, a minimum machine will have at least 8 MB of RAM and a 1 MB cache; CHRP machines will use the PowerPC 604 or later chip, and will support the PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) bus standard. CHRP machines will support at least the following environments: n AIX (IBM's UNIX port) n IBM OS/2 for PowerPC n Mac OS (Apple's new Macintosh operating system) n Novell NetWare n Solaris (from SunSoft) n Microsoft Windows NT
